EICR's & Why They're Important
EICR stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report. This is the testing of all fixed electrics and wiring to a premises for safety purposes. It involves investigation of all sockets, switches, consumer units and wiring.
This inspection needs to be carried out every 3-5 years (this will be specified on the paperwork) and is a legal requirement for any rental properties. Following a change in legislation in January 2020, it is now more important than ever to have this done and up to date.

Some properties vary, however as a general rule it is recommended that you have your electrics tested every 3-5 years. If you are selling your property you may be asked to have an EICR done. Equally, if you are a landlord you are required by law to do this also, you can find out more here.
The above are all classification codes you may be familiar with if you have previously had an EICR or other electrical testing done. C1 refers to present danger and risk of injury, C2 is classed as potentially dangerous and C3 is a recommendation for improvement.
For the most part your power supply will be almost entirely unaffected, however we will need to turn this off for a short period of time. This will be very minor, we can plan this around you and your schedule if necessary.
PAT testing is the safety inspection of any Portable Appliance. It involves checking the appliance for wear and tear checking the wires and plugs and also the fuse for any damage or aging. You are advised to have these tests done if you are an employer or landlord supplying portable appliances.
We will need to test all hardwired electrics such as sockets and switches. In addition to this we will need to test any panels and consumer units, as well any other fixed electrical appliances or components.
There is no simple answer as this varies depending on the individual and the test in question. If you are referring to PAT testing then yes, as long as you have the correct equipment and know what you need to do. At this time, you cannot undertake your own EICR as this requires certain qualifications and expertise. It is not recommended that you do this yourself unless adequately qualified.
